Voted The Island's Best Art Gallery
By Island Readers!

In addition to typical gallery offerings—original paintings, prints and posters—the shop is a veritable treasure trove of unusual hand-crafted gifts, nicely priced for the Santa with a long list.

Unlike some art galleries that can feel a bit stuffy, the atmosphere is warm and welcoming. Displays are thoughtfully arranged, but in an informal way that makes you feel right at home. “We’re funky, fun and friendly,” said gallery owner Nancy Voegele, who operates the family business with her son, daughter-in-law and one additional employee. Even her adorable granddaughter, Athena, is in on the action, calling herself the merchandise manager, helping arrange things in a pleasing way.

The primary focus of the business is custom framing, and the Pink House Gallery has the equipment and expertise to enhance all of your finest artwork as well as your cherished photos. Voegele particularly enjoys creating three-dimensional framed designs in shadowboxes—a unique way to preserve and display most any type of memorabilia. With a computerized mat cutter, the framing experts can create shapes to convey every imaginable theme. Name frames—alphabet-shaped mats with a photo framed inside each letter—make a thoughtful, personalized gift. In addition to the customized options, a huge selection of ready-made frames will suit a variety of needs.

The Pink House Gallery features the original works of approximately 15 area artists. You’ll find watercolors, pastels, oils and acrylics among the offerings. What you won’t find is the same-old, same-old. That’s because Voegele seeks out specialty items at small venues such as craft shows. “You almost have to do it that way,” she said. “When you go to market, then everybody else has the same thing. That drives me insane.” Items of interest include nautical-themed Tom Chamberlain pottery, whimsical hand-painted signs by local attorney/artist Cathy West Olivetti and “Cute Tools”—a line of hand-painted kitchen and garden tools from Art for a Cause.

Other unique craft items include hammered aluminum serving dishes, painted wooden angels, story squares, painted palm tree motif accessories and much more. “Artists are so clever now,” said Voegele. “It’s a fun business to be in.

Voegele opened The Pink House Gallery in 1984, operating upstairs in a pink house on U.S. 278. She has relocated twice and is currently at 1503 Main Street Village. You’ll know you’re there when you see pink. “I operated out of a white house for 17 years,” said Voegele of her previous location on Marshland Road. “I love the fact that we’re back in a pink house.”
